Camera Operator (Metro Vancouver)

Why does this amateur think that, "Experience" is the same as "Monetary Compensation"?

It's not. Monetary compensation pays my rent and buys me dinner... If I am looking for experience I will go to school or LOOK IN THE VOLUNTEERS SECTION OF CRAIGSLIST!!!"

WHAT IS SO HARD ABOUT READING THE TERMS OF POSTING?

Looking for camera operator/editor for new tv pilot in vancouver. Must be flexible, creative and some tv experience.

Please email for more details.
Location: MetroVancouver
  • Compensation: experience
Here's some news, jack - If you want to make a pilot, you pitch it first, find investors, maybe work with a production company or broadcaster.

The thing is, I have invested a lot of time in my education, experience and my equipment. If you can't find a producer to invest in your project, why do you think I would want to?

I can pretty much guarantee that if you can't pay your camera and editor then, you will work with amateurs, your product will look amateur, and then no producer will want to touch your project.

Amateur!

Male models needed for runway (DT Vancouver)

OK, our first example. Let's list the reasons why this guy is an idiot:

1. This website is for Television Film and Radio - What does runway modeling have to do with anything?
2. Why is it so hard for these idiots to understand? "
all job ads must offer monetary compensation -- no unpaid internships, barters, deferred pay, etc."

Looking for male models for runway modeling from April 8th to April 11th. Please be available for audition and fittings asap. Please provide full body shots with visible face and of course include your measurements. Although this position would be volunteer, it is a great chance for exposure as there are many designers, buyers, and media involved.
  • Location: DT Vancouver
  • Compensation: $0
The person in charge of this ad is Brandon and the gig is Vancouver Fashion Week brandon@vanfashionweek.com.

The Website says, "
Vancouver Fashion Week is recognized as a global platform for established and upcoming designers... Hailed as the West Coast's most prestigious industry event, Vancouver Fashion Week is committed to fostering the growth of designers and celebrating the fashion industry."

And yet... they want the models to work for free? Sounds strictly amateur to me! They want to celebrate fashion and exploit the meat puppets...

Who should the Vancouver Craigslist TFR community avoid?

What companies use and abuse Vancouver Craigslist TFR? Who constantly advertises looking for free labour for their shitty projects ?

Who Advertises on Vancouver Craigslist TFR?

Personally, I have found work on Vancouver Craigslist TFR with CTV, channelM, Global, Force Four Productions, Rocketship Productions...

What other GOOD companies look for talent on Vancouver Craigslist TFR?

Dear Producer who wants me to work for free.

Guess what, Dude. If you want me to work for free for you, then you are not a Producer, you are a volunteer organizer.

The job of Producer is to pitch a great idea to Investors and THEN find workers. If you can't explain your project clearly and raise funds for a production team then YOUR IDEA SUCKS.

If you are a wannabe Producer, then find wannabe Directors, Shooters and Editors in the VOLUNTEERS section of Craigslist. http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/vol/

Why do you think I will invest my education, experience and gear in your project when you can't even get production funding?

I admit that we all got our start from humble beginnings and we all have to start at the bottom, (unless you are a Vancouver Film School Graduate, and then you expect to start at the top ;) ). Vancouver Craigslist TFR is fine for offering low budget positions, but the point or this blog is:

Pay me or GTFO!

Vancouver Videographer Rates

Recently, there was a posting on vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/tfr/ that I thought was an awesome pay scale that we should all follow.

Producer: $600-$1000 a day
Director: $500-$1000 a day
DOP: $400-$600 a day
Editor: $350-$500 a day
Gaffers/Grips: $350-$500 a day
Sound: $350-$500 a day
Writers: Good ones name their price. A ten minute corporate video script :$1500-$2500 half on commencement

I do concede that http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/tfr/ should be a forum where up and coming videographers can find low paying, introductory jobs. It should also be a forum where new Producers can find cheap, eager workers.

The point of this blog is to value our work, and kick out the wankers who think "It will look good on your resume"

Pay me or GTFO!

Welcome to Vancouver Craigslist Television Film and Video Blog

To all the Vancouver Videographers:

I am a professional Videographer in Vancouver, BC and I use Craigslist a lot to find independent video productions job leads.

I am sick and tired of people thinking that a professional video production should cost $100 and I should do it because it will look good on my resume or "I'll pay you when the video makes some money".

Vancouver Craigslist TFR is reserved for professional, paying jobs. Volunteer positions are a different category.

This blog is intended to be a forum for discussing Craigslist Television/Film/Radio postings in Vancouver.

As Vancouver Videographers, let's slam all the exploiters, call out the data miners, and screw the people who undervalue our work. On the other hand, let's promote those who offer opportunities to young videographers and celebrate the really great productions that value our training and experience.
